What's typically included
Comprehensive policies with the 'hire car' option (an extra $50–$120/yr) cover a rental for up to 21–30 days while your car is repaired.
No-fault claims: if the other driver is identified and insured, you can claim a rental directly from their insurer for the full repair duration.
Shop-provided courtesy cars
Many NZ panel beaters keep 2–10 courtesy vehicles for customers — usually small hatchbacks. They're free but limited; book early when scheduling your repair.
