What Gold Class requires
Every technician on the shop floor — estimators, panel beaters, refinishers, structural specialists — must complete annual training in current vehicle technologies (high-strength steel, aluminium, ADAS calibration, EV battery safety).
Why it matters for modern cars
Post-2015 vehicles use boron steel, aluminium and composite structures that require specific welding, riveting and bonding techniques. Get this wrong and the car's crumple zones fail in the next crash.
How to verify a NZ shop
Ask for the I-CAR Gold Class certificate (it's renewed annually). Cross-check on the I-CAR website. A genuine shop will display the badge proudly in reception.
